Kolby Peterson is a mother of two daughters, both born in the serenity of their farm house on the lands of Wildwood Farm. Her first birth was attended by two women who know birth well, and her second daughter gave her the pleasure (and mild shock) of an unanticipated free birth. Kolby believes birth is sacred, powerful, and transformational for both mother and baby, when left to the intelligent design of the natural birthing process.

Though her daughters’ births were joyous, she experienced postpartum grief for the ‘fourth trimester’ (a period of deep bonding, healing, and rest with the baby) that she longed for and which never come to be. At the heart of a fourth trimester, a village is needed to encircle and nourish the new baby and mother. This grief inspired a vision for birthing and postpartum nourishment in the north - if women could reclaim autonomy and choice in birthing, and also have the support of a village to give babies and mothers the kindest and gentlest beginnings as they initiate their walk on Earth together, then the Initiation of Birth may be Rebirthed.
